Quotes such as, “confidence is beautiful”, “confidence is what makes a girl”, “character is how you live life when no one is watching”, and “go confidently in the directions of your dreams”, are quotes that I’ve learned to apply while at John Robert Powers.
I’ve wanted to act since I was little. My inspiration is Raven Symone. I think of the person who helps me to build up my confidence, my mom. She’s behind everything I do 100%. John Robert Powers has helped me to see that people boosting up my confidence is great, but to be confident in myself is so much better.
With every class, and every audition I gain more and more confidence. There are times when I tell people that I want to be an actress. They give me a funny look or they say that it will never happen. Times like that used to make me doubt myself and my talent. Since coming to John Robert Powers, it hasn’t happened. Now when I get funny looks and I’m told I can’t do it, I reply with a simple, “Yes I can, and I will”. From learning how to answer the telephone, to what and how to say in an interview, John Robert Powers has helped me gain things that will help me in the long run no matter what I do.
The feeling you get when you know you’ve done your best, or when you’re congratulated because your best was good enough makes you feel great. Every time I go to class and learn something new or perform my monologue I get that feeling. Not only because my teacher said I did a great job, but because I have that much confidence in myself and my performance.
My life is what I make of it. I’ve been blessed to be able to go to John Robert Powers. What I learn and how I use it is up to me. I have to believe in the talent that God gave me. Peter T. McIntyre said, "Confidence comes from not always being right but from not fearing to be wrong.” When I get feedback from agents, whether good or bad I know to take it in stride. I can be sure that if I take my feedback to class my teacher will help me to correct it. When I get that approval from my teacher saying you’ve improved, now you have it, I feel great. I can always be sure that if my teachers say I’m ready, then I’m ready.
Now that I have confidence in myself, I hope the rest of the students at John Robert Powers will also see that they have to, “Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
